Hybrid biofunctional nanostructures as stimuli-responsive catalytic systems

A novel active biocatalytic reaction system is proposed by covalently immobilizing porcine pancreas trypsin within the thermoresponsive polymer shell of superparamagnetic Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles.Active ester-functional nanocarriers suitable for the immobilization of amino functional targets are obtained in a single polymerization step by grafting-from copolymerization of an active ester monomer fro...

The first catalytic asymmetric thioacetalization by chiral phosphoric acid catalysis.

We report here the first catalytic asymmetric thioacetalization of salicylaldehyde and dithiol. Chiral phosphoric acid STRIP C5 is identified as a powerful catalyst for this reaction to afford various chiral dithioacetals in high to excellent yields and enantioselectivities under mild conditions.

Artificial switchable catalysts.

Catalysis is key to the effective and efficient transformation of readily available building blocks into high value functional molecules and materials. For many years research in this field has largely focussed on the invention of new catalysts and the optimization of their performance to achieve high conversions and/or selectivities. However, inspired by Nature, chemists are beginning to turn ...

Asymmetric Catalysis.

H ighlighting this issue of PNAS and the forthcoming one* is a Special Feature comprising 8 Perspectives and 44 research articles that cover aspects of asymmetric catalysis, the phenomenon whereby a chiral catalyst promotes the conversion of an achiral substrate to a chiral product with a preference for the formation of one of the mirror image isomers (enantiomers). The demand for chiral compou...

State of the art of stimuli-responsive liposomes for cancer therapy

Specific delivery of therapeutic agents to solid tumors and their bioavailability at the target site are the most clinically important and challenging goals in cancer therapy. Liposomes are promising nanocarriers and have been well investigated for cancer therapy. In spite of preferred accumulation in tumors via the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect, inefficient drug release at t...
